Found only in the humid pine forests of New Caledonia in the South-Western Pacific, the Horned Parakeet (Eunymphicus cornutus) is called horned because it has two elongated black feathers which resemble horns and protrude from the head and have red tips. Typically found in pairs or small groups. they are monogamous and often stay with their breeding partner year-round. Classified as Vulnerable, the population has dropped to around 5,000 and 6,000 individuals.
