The Sooty Copper (Lycaena tityrus) male is sooty black on the upperside with a subtle purple tinge. On the underside, it has a double band of black marginal spots on both wings and a rather uniform greyish ground colour. The female is orange with black spots. Generally found in meadows, grassland, and scrub, it is widely distributed in most of Europe.
