Lilian's lovebird (Agapornis lilianae), also known as the Nyasa lovebird, is named after Lilian Sclater, the sister of the zoologist and museum director William Lutley Sclater. William, who formally described the species in the late 1890s, named the bird in her honour. Born in 1875, Lilian was the daughter of Philip Lutley Sclater, a prominent ornithologist and founder of the British Ornithologists' Club. An African parrot that is predominantly green with orange on its head and upper chest, it is the smallest parrot on mainland Africa, measuring about 13 cm (5 inches) long, and is highly social. Found in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Mozambique, it prefers Mopane woodlands and is gregarious, often gathering in large flocks.
