The watercock (Gallicrex cinerea) is a waterbird in the rail and crake family found in swamps across south Asia from India and Sri Lanka to south China, Japan and Indonesia. The watercock lives in reedbeds, marshes, and wetlands, and feeds by probing with its bill in mud or shallow water. The watercock males are black-grey plumage while females are brown.
