The saffron finch (Sicalis flaveola) male is bright yellow with an orange crown which distinguishes it from most other yellow finches. Females are a slightly duller version of the male, but in the southern subspecies (Sicalis flaveola pelzelni) it is olive-brown with heavy dark streaks. The saffron finch is widespread in South America yet but has also been introduced elsewhere including Hawaii, Panama, Puerto Rico.
