The Eastern tree hyrax (Dendrohyrax validus), which lives in trees, is a small nocturnal mammal native to Africa but also found in the Middle East. Mostly nocturnal, it has four-toed front feet and three-toed back feet with rounded nails, and rubbery soles that help it climb. While its small stature, as well as diet, resembles that of rodents, scientific studies show that the hyrax is related to the elephant and sea cows (manatees and dugongs).
