The Luzon bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba luzonica) is a secretive dove that is named for the red spot on its breast, which resembles a bleeding wound. It is one of a number of species of ground dove in the genus Gallicolumba that are called "bleeding-hearts". It is found within three islands that are in the Northern Philippines, one called Luzon is the source of the bird's name. The scientific name for the species gives an indication about its behaviour – galli means chicken and columba means dove. The bleeding heart dove lives its life much as a chicken does – foraging on the ground amongst dead leaves looking for food. It lives in flocks moving through the forest, staying in touch with each other by using a series of coo-ing noises.
