The Fulvous-crested Tanager (Tachyphonus surinamus) is called "fulvous" because of the brown-yellow or reddish-brown colour of its crown and rump in the eastern part of its range. The male has a prominent, usually tawny-buff or rufous, stripe on its crown, which is sometimes described as a crest. It is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
