The bushshrike Yellow-crowned Gonolek's (Laniarius barbarus) name Gonolek comes from a local name in Senegal, meaning insect-eater. It is also called a Barbary Bushshrike – and previously Barbary Shrike. Found in equatorial Africa from Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo eastward to Ethiopia, it is black and crimson with bright yellow feathers on its head. It is shy and secretive, preferring dense undergrowth in various wooded habitats like forests, savannas, and gardens. It is often found near water sources like rivers and streams.
