The lesser kestrel (Falco naumanni) is a small falcon with long pointed wings and a long tail marked with a black band at the end. When soaring it shows more rounded wings than Common Kestrel. It breeds from the Mediterranean across Afghanistan and Central Asia, to China and Mongolia. It is a summer migrant, wintering in Africa, Pakistan, India and Iraq.
