One of 42 species of African barbets, the little-known banded barbet (Lybius undatus) is very widely distributed throughout Ethiopia between 300 and 2400 metres (1,000 to 8,000 feet) - and is also found in Eritrea. Like most barbets, this bird is relatively long and stocky, with a large head and a big bill lined with the distinctive bristles that the barbet species is known for. It feeds on fruit and insects.
