The sunset lorikeet (Trichoglossus forsteni) gets its name from the vibrant colours it displays, particularly the red breast that can be reminiscent of a sunset. It is also known as the scarlet-breasted lorikeet or Forsten's lorikeet, named after El Tio Forsten, also known as Eltio Alegondas Forsten, a Dutch naturalist who lived from 1811 to 1843. This lorikeet is endemic to the Indonesian islands of Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, and Tanah Jampea, where it inhabits forests, woodlands, and plantations, with preferred altitudes varying by island.
