The grey kingbird (Tyrannus dominicensis) or gray kingbird scientific name Tyrannus means “tyrant, despot, or king,” referring to the aggression kingbirds exhibit with each other and with other species. It is often seen on an exposed perch high in a tree, occasionally sallying out to feed on insects, its staple diet. Also known as pitirre, petchary, or white-breasted kingbird, it is at home among the mangrove swamps of south Florida and the Caribbean region.
