The emperor tamarin (Saguinus imperator) is named for its distinctive white moustache, which is said to have reminded explorers of the German emperor Wilhelm II. Males and females have moustaches. Squirrel-sized New World monkeys, they have claws on toes and fingers, aside from its big toe, which has a nail. Native to South America it can be found in Brazil as well as places in Peru and Bolivia that are parts of the southwest Amazon Basin. There are two subspecies of emperor tamarin. Bearded emperor tamarins have a white beard along with their white moustache, whereas the black-chinned emperor tamarin only has the distinctive white moustache.
