There are six surviving species of tiger (Panthera tigris) – Sumatran Tiger. Amur Tiger. Bengal Tiger, Indochinese Tiger, South China Tiger, Malayan Tiger. It shares the genus Panthera with the lion, leopard, jaguar, and snow leopard. The largest of all the Asian big cats, tigers rely primarily on sight and sound rather than smell for hunting. They typically hunt alone and stalk prey. There are only around 4,000 surviving in the wild.
