Linnaeus's two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus), is named after Carl Linnaeus, also known after ennoblement in 1761 as Carl von Linné, a Swedish biologist and physician who formalised binomial nomenclature, the modern system of naming organisms. The largest extant sloth species, it lives in ever-wet tropical rainforests that are hot and humid. Also known as the southern two-toed sloth, unau, or Linne's two-toed sloth (see above) it is found in Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil north of the Amazon River. There is now evidence suggesting the species' range expands into Bolivia. Its fur colour ranges from a brownish yellow to a pale tone of brown. Choloepus didactylus is larger than the three-toed sloth – it also has longer hair and bigger eyes.
