The red-billed firefinch or Senegal firefinch (Lagonosticta senegala) is aptly named for its fiery plumage and matching red bill – the adult male has entirely scarlet plumage apart from brown wings. Females have uniformly brown upperparts and buff underparts. A resident breeding bird in most of Sub-Saharan Africa, it prefers open grassland and cultivation.
