Harris's antelope squirrels (Ammospermophilus harrisii) are found in southwestern parts of the United States and northwestern Mexico. Harris' antelope squirrels often create burrows for shelter underneath various shrubs. There are four recognised species in the world:
Harris's antelope squirrel, Ammospermophilus harrisii, found in Arizona, New Mexico, and Sonora in Mexico.; The San Joaquin antelope squirrel or Nelson's antelope squirrel, Ammospermophilus nelsoni, found in the San Joaquin Valley, California.; Texas antelope squirrel, Ammospermophilus interpres, found in Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico.; The white-tailed antelope squirrel, Ammospermophilus leucurus, found in the southwestern United States and the Baja California Peninsula.
