Eurasian Tundra reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus), also called the Norwegian reindeer, northern reindeer, common reindeer or mountain reindeer /caribou, is a mid-sized to large subspecies of the reindeer that is native to the western Scandinavian Peninsula, particularly Norway. Medium to large even-toed ungulates with a thick double coat that protects them from the Norwegian winter, they live in large herds, though they fragment and become smaller during winter. Reindeer are the only deer species where both females and males sport antlers.
