The Sally Lightfoot crab (Grapsus grapsus), walks on tiptoes and may be named for its skill at skipping over salt water (Sal is Spanish for salt). It is also rumoured to have been named after a Caribbean dancer, due to its speed and agility in jumping from rock to rock. A brightly-coloured coastal scavenger, it is found in the Galapagos Islands and across the western coast of South and Central America. It is also known as the red rock crab.
