The mountain goat (Oreamnos americanus), also known as the Rocky Mountain goat, is a hoofed mammal endemic to mountainous areas of western North America. Living at elevations few other animals can inhabit, its main predator is the golden eagle, who will fly in to snatch baby mountain goats off of steep ledges. Both male and female mountain goats have beards, short tails, and long black horns. The mountain goats is not a true goat; it is more closely allied with the takins (Budorcas) and chamois (Rupicapra).
