Grey Bird Grasshopper (Schistocerca nitens) is a powerful jumper, strong flier, and camouflaged to blend with the ground at rest. Native to southern North America including Mexico, Central America, and the southwestern United States it is a prolific breeder. It is distantly related to the African migratory ‘locusts’ that sometimes form large destructive swarms. It lives in many habitats including desert, woodland, and lower elevation mountainous areas.
