The Nun is given its name by the raised feathers which form a kind of hood which covers the back of the neck and head, resembling a nun. As with all domestic pigeons it is descended from the rock pigeon (Columba livia). The male has a slightly bigger body than the female, and a round head. the female has a flat head around the eyes.
