The Namaqua dove (Oena capensis), also known as the Cape Dove, is probably named after Namaqualand (Afrikaans: Namakwaland), an arid region of Namibia and South Africa. The only species in the genus Oena, it is found throughout most of Africa. The Namaqua dove is the smallest dove in the region and the only one with a long tail. Males have black faces, throats and chests; females have a buffy-grey face – and the chin, throat and breast are light brown.
