The leopard moth or wood leopard moth (Zeuzera pyrina) has six large black spots on the white furry thorax, along with heavy black spotting on whitish wings – hence, it's association with leopards. Found primarily in Europe, it is known for its destructive larvae which bore into stems of shrubs and trees, especially apples, pears and plums, where they do much damage by eating the heartwood.
