The Australian eastern bluebonnet parrot (Northiella haematogaster), also known as the greater bluebonnet, is named for the patch of bright blue feathers on its forehead and face which resembles the sunbonnet worn by pioneer women. The greater, or eastern name distinguishes it from its close relative, the Naretha bluebonnet (Northiella narethae), which is sometimes considered a separate species or a subspecies. Its habitat includes open country, where it seeks tree hollows for nesting in the dry, inland regions of south-eastern Australia.
