The secretive and elusive rails, or Rallidae, are a family of some 130 species which includes coots, crakes, gallinules, and moorhens. They generally live in dense vegetation such as reeds and overgrown pools and communicate with loud calls. Moorhens and coots are more evident than the other family members.
