The Red oven bird (Furnarius rufus), also known as the rufous hornero, has reddish brown plumage and nests in a large thick clay oven which it makes out of mud or dung on a post or isolated tree. Pairs remain together throughout the year and will work on the nest during that time – it can take months to complete. It occurs in eastern South America, and is the national bird in Argentina.
