The marbled godwit (Limosa fedoa), a large shorebird, is named for its colourful body, speckled in browns and cinnamon, that are especially noticeable when it spreads its long and pointed wings to take flight. To feed, it plunges its swordlike, two-toned, long, and slightly upturned bill deep into sand and mud to pull out aquatic invertebrates and plant tubers. Marbled Godwits breed in shortgrass prairies near wetlands of North America.
