The Andean goose (Neochen melanoptera) lives within the wetlands of the Andes Mountains, in South America, 3000 metres above sea level. However, although it lives around the lakes within the mountains, it is a heavy goose that prefers to walk in preference to swimming or flying – so it tends to avoid the water.
