The common ground dove (Columbina passerina) walks on the ground in open bushy places in the southern United States. The smallest dove that inhabits the United States, it is sandy brown overall, with large, dark spots on the wing coverts. The common ground dove is North America's smallest dove and is one of the world's smallest by mass. It mates with its partner for life.
