The Baltimore oriole (Icterus galbula) is Maryland, United States, official state bird.It has also been the namesake of the state's professional baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles, since the late 19th century. Males are characterised by a brilliant orange colour on the chest and a black head. They live in the Eastern USA, Central America, and northern South America.
