The black coucal (Centropus grillii) is the only cuckoo to have seasonal colouration change. In breeding plumage it is all black except for its wings. In non-breeding plumage, the upper parts are dark brown with rufous barring. A member of the Cuculidae family, it has a wide distribution in Africa south of the Sahara. The Black Coucal, is polyandrous – the practice of having more than one husband or male mate at one time.
