The black-striped sparrow (Arremonops conirostris) has prominent black stripes on its head – broad black lateral crown stripes and a narrow black eyestripe. A shy, ground-loving bird of Central & South American thickets, it surprisingly has a loud, sweet, accelerating song. It is found in the humid lowlands and foothills of Central and northern South America, from Honduras down through Central America to Ecuador, Brazil, and Venezuela.
