The oriental pied hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris) is among the smallest and most common of the Asian hornbills, has the largest distribution in the genus, and is found in the Indian Subcontinent and throughout Southeast Asia. It feeds mainly on fruit such as Knema globularia, but also take small animals such as reptiles, birds and mammals. It nests in suitable hole in tree – the female hornbill is sealed inside the hole with a plaster of mud and fibres. Then the male gathers and delivers earth and food to the female through a narrow slit.
