The spotted whistling duck (Dendrocygna guttata) gets its name from its distinctive white spots on its flanks and breast, and from the high-pitched, whistling calls it makes instead of quacking. It feeds on a diet of grasses, aquatic plants, seeds, insects, and small frogs, and can be found in wetlands, pools, and swamps across Indonesia, New Guinea, and northern Australia. It nests in tall, hollow trees, often those near water.
