Often known as the ‘king of the jungle’, especially in Africa, most lions (Panthera leo) actually live in the savannah or grasslands. Just one population of wild forest-dwelling lions remains, in Gir Forest National Park, India. Female lions are the pride's primary hunters. They often work together to prey upon antelopes, zebras, wildebeest, and other large animals of the open grasslands. Many of these animals are faster than lions, so teamwork pays off. White Lions are not albinos, but a genetic rarity unique to one endemic region on the globe: the Greater Timbavati / Kruger Park Region.
