The western bluebird (Sialia mexicana) is a vibrant blue (males) or a dull grey-blue (female). It has a blue neck and chin whereas the Eastern bluebird has an orange neck and chin. The Western Bluebird has a blue belly and throat and chestnut scapulars while the Eastern Bluebird is discernable by its white belly, orange throat and blue scapulars. This small North American thrush breeds throughout much of the western United States, Mexico, and southwestern Canada.
