The New Zealand Blue Damselfly / Kēkēwai (Austrolestes colensonis) is the country's largest native damselfly and is the only blue species in the entire dragon and damselfly order (Odonata) found in New Zealand. Only the mature males boast the signature brilliant blue colour; females and young males are actually a shiny, iridescent green. It is endemic to New Zealand and is widely distributed throughout both the North and South Islands.
