The giant walkingstick (Megaphasma denticrus) is the largest insect in North America, with females up to 7 inches long. The middle and hind legs have spines. Stick insects are the biggest insects in the world. Walkingsticks, in general, have bodies that resemble the shape, and usually the colour, of sticks, twigs or branches from a tree – a form of camouflage that allows the Walkingstick to avoid predators.
