The pied bush chat (Saxicola caprata) male is black except for a white rump, wing patch and lower belly. The female is drab brown and slightly streaked. About sixteen subspecies are recognised through its wide range with many island forms across West Asia and Central Asia to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Formerly classed as a member of the thrush family Turdidae, it is now more generally considered to be an Old World flycatcher.
