The mountain velvetbreast (Lafresnaya lafresnayi) is a hummingbird in the Trochilidae family with a long, down-curved bill. There are seven subspecies, all generally dark green with a pale-sided tail. The breast and belly are black in males a nd white in females. The only member of its genus, it is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest.
