Native to northern Australia, the red-collared lorikeet (Trichoglossus rubritorquis) name comes from the striking, bright orange-red collar that runs across the bird's hindneck or nape. It is the only member of the rainbow lorikeet group with this specific marking. Especially in tropical cities like Darwin, these lorikeets are frequently found acting intoxicated—stumbling, losing inhibitions, and even falling from trees – possibly caused by eating fermenting fruit. It primarily inhabits tropical woodlands, open forests, mangroves, and savannas, while also adapting to urban parks and gardens.
