https://www.birdsimagestock.com/p689934994 New Zealand’s most common native damselfly, the redcoat damselfly (Xanthocnemis zealandica) gets its common name from the bold, vibrant red colouring of the mature male's body, which resembles a bright red coat—historically evocative of the red military coats worn by British soldiers. It is also known locally by its Māori name kihitara. Males are a striking red with black markings, but females vary from bright red to deep yellow, orange-red, or black with yellow stripes. en-us (C) BirdsImageStock birdsimagestock@gmail.com (Birds Image Stock) Sun, 08 Nov 2026 09:28:37 GMT Sun, 08 Nov 2026 09:30:54 GMT Insects Animals https://www.birdsimagestock.com/img/s/v-10/p1611147065-10.jpg https://www.birdsimagestock.com/p689934994 120 120 https://www.birdsimagestock.com/p689934994/e60082739
