The Sahel Bush Sparrow (Gymnoris dentata) name comes directly from its habitat: it lives across the Sahel region –the semi-arid belt of Africa – and prefers bushy, savannah environments with scattered trees. Also known as the bush petronia, the male has a rufous eyebrow and pale throat spot; the female has a clearer white eyebrow and wing bars. It is found across the Sahel from Mauritania to Eritrea and into Yemen, making it a widespread species.
