The critically endangered black-winged myna (Acridotheres melanopterus) has white head, breast, back and rump with glossy black parts of the wings and tail. Also known as the black-winged starling or the white-breasted starling, it is endemic to Indonesia. The word "myna" comes from a Hindu word meaning "delightful" or "joyful". Mainly found on the islands of Java and Bali, it prefers tropical dry and moist forests, forest edges, open woodlands, and cultivated areas like agricultural land, orchards, and suburbs.
