Endemic to Ethiopia and Eritrea, Rüppell's black chat (Myrmecocichla melaena) is named in honour of Eduard Rüppell (1794-1884), a 19th-century German explorer, collector, and zoologist. It lives mainly in the Ethiopian highlands where it is round in rocky slopes often close to streams.
