The Plain or Common Palmfly (Elymnias hypermnestra) caterpillars feed almost exclusively on trees within the palm family (Arecaceae), such as coconut palms, ornamental palms, and betel nut palms - hence the name. It is called Plain to distinguish it from the Plain Tiger – female of certain regional subspecies mimic the Plain Tiger butterfly (Danaus chrysippus) to trick predators into thinking it is toxic. It has a wide range across South and South-east Asia.
