The Purple-bellied Lory (Lorius hypoinochrous), a medium-sized parrot endemic to Papua New Guinea and its surrounding islands, a has brilliant red body, glossy black cap, and stark purple belly. Like all lories, they have a highly specialised brush-tipped tongue. This allows them to effectively lap up nectar and pollen from flowers, which makes up the bulk of their diet in the wild. They thrive in tropical mangroves, moist lowland forests, and also high-altitude mountain forests.
