The migrant hawker (Aeshna mixta) is one of the smaller species of hawker dragonflies. It is similar in appearance to other hawkers but has a characteristic yellow golf-tee shaped mark on the second segment of the abdomen. It is found throughout central and southern Europe, north Africa, the Middle East and across Asia to China and Japan. Hawkers are the largest and fastest flying dragonflies; they catch their insect-prey mid-air and can hover or fly backwards.
